This short week, students will continue on the geological time scale and working in chapter 12 and 13 in the textbook. We will also look at Virginia provinces since we did not get to it last week. The week will go as follows:

ES.8 The student will investigate and understand geologic processes including plate tectonics. Key concepts include a) how geologic processes are evidenced in the physiographic provinces of Virginia including the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau; b) processes (faulting, folding, volcanism, metamorphism, weathering, erosion, deposition, and sedimentation) and their resulting features; and c) tectonic processes (subduction, rifting and sea floor spreading, and continental collision).

During week 18, students have a fun and interactive lesson through Google Earth. We will explore the 5 provinces of Virginia and learn many of the characteristics of each province. We will then jump into Chapter 12 of the book and will learn about Earth's history. We will focus on how the Earth forms and the different geological events that took place. We hope to finish the chapter and have an assessment at the end of the week. The week will go as follows:

I CAN name all 5 provinces of Virginia and several characteristics of each.
